PROJECT REVEAL // Century Bath Remodel
On Instagram: #FDcenturybath
We are so very excited to share a dramatic bathroom remodel with you today! Located in the upper floor of a century-old home, this bathroom had been renovated once before and was a little stuck in the Seventies. Our clients craved a fresh look, but one that still honoured the home's historic bones.
BEFORE
AFTER
Deciding to uncover and revive the radiator was one of the first decisions we made and it really does add historic character + texture to the room. For the floor tile, we selected a hexagon-shaped tile and added a border in a contrasting color to outline the room, a shape that would have been popular in the home's day in this area.
Other historic features include an original wood window with a brass fastener - so happy we could add that detail back in!
One of our clients' top priorities in the re-design was to achieve more storage. Switching out the previous two pedestal sinks for a much larger vanity with a single sink, allowed us to design a bank of large drawers for extra towels and toiletries. Crystal knobs and an added toekick detail lend a vintage feel to the vanity. And of course, we were thrilled when our client was as excited about that pretty shade of sea-green as we were.
A definite game-changer in this bathroom is the addition of a shower, as there was not one in the previous design. The home's bedrooms are mostly on the second floor as well and having a shower on the same level saves many, many trips up and down stairs in the mornings.
With thoughtful design and carefully considered finishes, along with trusting clients and talented tradespeople, we've achieved a bathroom design that gains on efficiency, maximizes storage, and provides a beautiful backdrop for everything daily life can throw at it.
