HOUSE TOUR // #SPRINGINTOHOME TOUR WEEK 1: DOREEN CORRIGAN

Welcome to the first post in our #SpringIntoHome tour!   I've partnered up with a great group of design mavens and we're so excited to share our homes with you this spring!

Today's tour features Doreen Corrigan - a design darling who's poured so much love into her Chicago-area home.  Keeping following over the next several weeks as we feature the homes of Bria from Bria Hammel Interiors, Claire from Centered by Design, and Meredith from View from my Heels.  Can't wait!

Doreen says she fell in love with this home from the first time they walked in, purchasing it about three years ago.  Although the home had beautiful bones such as a gorgeous open staircase and high ceilings, her and her husband began making small changes and adding their stamp to the house.  By freshening up the paint throughout, adding wainscoting, and painting the stair rail, they added tons of warmth to the front entry area.  Don't you just love how welcoming it feels?

Converting their front room office into a playroom was a great idea that the family gets tons of use from.  I love the fact that there are double doors on this room so instead of constantly tidying, the doors can be closed whenever needed - a perfect playroom space!  By the way, Doreen loves pineapples...can you spot one here?

The vintage pineapple chandelier is an eBay score that Doreen painted white.

I think Doreen's living room is my favorite room in her house so far and I'm sure you can see why.  It gets tons of light from a huge window and with hits of gold and soft pinks, this room feels super cheery and welcoming.  Doreen has added so much great texture to this room using baskets, textured rugs, and warm metallics - I can definitely see it being a great entertaining or lounging space.

Doreen styled her family-room built-in shelves using colors inspired by the beach.  Pastel tones set the mood for spring and a variety of textures and objects make you wonder about the story behind each item.

If you're craving a refresh this spring, take a page from Doreen's notebook and incorporate some found objects into your home that remind you of warmer weather - even a collection of twigs or shells pulled from the beach on a family holiday can be a precious memento of a moment frozen in time with loved ones.

Like yours does I'm sure, the family spends a lot of time at their dining table - in this case, a vintage find Doreen paired with chairs from One Kings Lane.

It's all about the mix - repurposing vintage finds with pieces that you're drawn to in order to create the home you love for your family.  I think Doreen's perspective sums it up perfectly:

"My philosophy of home is to surround yourself with things you love because it will truly embody your family and tell your story. I believe home and decor should be affordable and accessible to all."  - Doreen Corrigan

Thanks for joining in on our #SpringIntoHome tour!  It's been a pleasure getting to know Doreen recently - she's got such a bright and warm personality - and I hope you enjoyed a glimpse into her home as much as I did!  You can find Doreen on her self-titled blog and you should definitely check out her beautiful Instagram feed.

Check back next Friday when we'll feature Bria of Bria Hammel Interiors - can't wait!
