TREND WATCH // Paint-dipped Walls

While certainly not a new idea, paint-dipped walls are a look I've been noticing (and loving!) lately.  At one point, my childhood room had two paint colours divided by an oak trim and while the idea here is decidedly more modern, I'd say the concept is the same.

To get a look that's au courant use a darker tone (dare for a colour!) on the lower half of the wall, and a neutral or lighter tone on the upper half.  Paint-dipped walls are a great way to add a hit of colour without committing the entire room and such a cost-effective way to up the design factor in a room overnight!

The yellow below is a bold choice but how fun?  Adding a slim moulding in black accentuates the change in colour and draws your eye to the centre of the wall.

Paint dipped walls work wonderful with neutral colors as well.  The cream and grey spaces shown below feel contemporary and sophisticated at the same time.  In the image on the right, the charcoal wall breaks up the room and helps to highlight the furniture without allowing it to blend in to its surroundings.

Notice the barely-there white trim above?  I didn't the first time but that's exactly the point - it blends in to the white wall above but provides a subtle divide between the two colours.

When I think of the coming summer weather, this soft green paint-dipped wall colour is the embodiment of fresh summer herbs and leaves fading into fall.  I'm always watching for colours that work well with honey oak as so many clients here on the Prairies have some amount of oak in their home, and in the photo below, this moody green balances out the warm tones in the flooring just perfectly.  Can I get an amen?

The trend works with great with more mid-century vibes...

...Or a little Boho, if that's the way you want to go!

Even a more traditional setting feels right at home against that deep ochre shade.  At Farmer's Daughter Interiors, we're in the middle of working on some extra awesome furniture projects - keep your eyes peeled for how we're using this gorgeous ochre in our client's home right now!

As you can tell, paint-dipped walls can suit any decor style.  And, like I often say, it's just paint which is another reason why I'm loving this trend lately:  affordable + non-committal + easy to change = the perfect trend to jump onboard with.
